Who We Are

About Us

Learn about our mission, history, and the team behind Baltimore Scores in STEM.

Supporting Baltimore's student-athletes in STEM.

Baltimore Scores in STEM was created to support students in Baltimore City Public Schools who are pursuing careers in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and math).

The goal of Baltimore Scores in STEM is to provide an annual scholarship award, in addition to mentorship, to deserving Baltimore student-athletes who are enrolled or are planning to enroll in a STEM program at an accredited institution of higher education.

The Challenge

Why this matters.

Financial Barriers

Over half of BCPS students come from low-income households. College affordability is a genuine obstacle, not just a concern.

Time Lost to Sport

Training, travel, and competition leave student-athletes less time to earn money or close the financial gap through work.

Underrepresentation in STEM

Nearly 90% of BCPS students identify as Black or Hispanic — groups historically underrepresented in STEM fields.

Our History

Built by student-athletes, for student-athletes.

Baltimore Scores in STEM was founded in 2020 by a group of student-athletes at Johns Hopkins University. Inspired by the work of education-oriented organizations in Baltimore and the philanthropic legacy of Hopkins alumni like Mayor Michael Bloomberg, this group set about making their own mark on the Baltimore community.

Hoping to reach Baltimore youth with a similar passion for athletics and STEM education, this 501(c)3 nonprofit was formed to support annual scholarships and a mentorship system for Baltimore student-athletes pursuing STEM careers. Since our founding, Baltimore Scores in STEM has awarded two scholarships to bright Baltimoreans in support of their college education in STEM.
